2020 Groundhog Day Roundup

2/2, a fine date in both U.S. and European styles of date-writing, and a fine day for SilverMedals.net. It’s Groundhog Day! One of the more ridiculous pseudo-historic, pseudo-arcane, and pseudo-holiday events in existence. As I wrote last year, it’s the day where fancy men in top hats stand outside in the freezing cold staring at the furry little rodents and their shadows.

A reminder for groundhog enthusiasts, if any of you actually exist, if the groundhog “sees” his shadow, it means we’re in for 6 more weeks of winter; if he does not, then the warmer weather should blow in sooner. The science behind it is completely lacking in any merit, but it’s still a fun little national and local tradition worth noting here.

This year, the groundhog Grand Poobah himself, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, which means that there will be an early spring in 2020! Or some bullshit to that effect.

Below is a little roundup of other groundhog predictions in North America. Enjoy and have a happy February 2!
